As a teenager, Duane Forrest once brought a homeless man into his mum’s house to offer him shelter and food for the night. He dreamed of seeing the world as a kid but thought it a “silly” expectation for a young black boy living in social housing. Now he’s an international singer and songwriter whose mum is the “model of a woman I want to be with”. The strength she showed after losing her daughter during an operation and stories of her journey from Jamaica to Canada inform Duane’s unique music, and his new Edinburgh Fringe show full details here. We talk growing up poor, bashment parties and bass.
